Our Favorite Finds

The Crossroads effect is defined by a slow take over of your closet. It usually starts with just a few items you purchased outright arriving to the interior of your closet. They get comfortable and you’re comfortable with the prices. Then you discover how awesome and easy trading can be. Slowly, your closet develops a revolving door – items are consistently moving in and out. You always have something that is new (at least to you), and if you play your cards right, you rarely have to pay for it.

But everyone has that favorite find they’ll never trade back. It’s much like shutting the door on the recycling loop and saying “Nope, this one stays here.” All of our employees are crazy Crossroads fans, and some like myself even came over to the bright side long before working here. Realizing every person has their own version of my beloved Gucci clutch, I e-mailed my buds here at Crossroads asking them the question, “What is your favorite find?” The results were interesting…and visually stimulating. Amber, are you sure you’re not going to trade that Coach bag back?

Gina, Marketing Communications Manager: It’s tough to feel glam as a new mom, but my favorite CTC accessories are the perfect distraction from the baby food in my hair. All of these came from the new section.Jason, Corporate Buying Assistant/Master of the Universe: My entire outfit is from Crossroads!  Each item I purchased was under $25 and I bought them from different stores I have worked.  The jacket I have had for the longest. I bought it from the Market St. store, and it was only $14 – best deal ever!   I have been wearing it for the past 5 years, and I don’t plan on stopping.Sarah, Social Media Coordinator (me!): Off the top of my head, my favorite Crossroads find is the piece that began my vintage Gucci obsession – a vintage Gucci clutch I purchased from Shattuck Crossroads for under $30 when I was still a student at UC Berkeley. The rest? A vintage Trifari necklace I wear pretty much every other day, and a pair of showstopping Ramon Tenza heels I got from Crossroads in Oakland. Come summer, I will wear all at once.Erin, Marketing Director: It’s the perfect black clutch, and it goes with everything. Never going back!Amber, Communications Coordinator:  My Michael Kors trench coat is a classic, and I can keep it forever. I love that it has a detachable liner, too.Orion, Corporate Buyer: Having loved Ferragamo shoes for years, I was thrilled to find this Ferragamo bag when we went to help open the Santa Barbara store last year!Amber, Communications Coordinator: On my last day working in a store, a woman brought in this bag to sell. I loved it, and even though she’d forgotten the long strap at home, I wanted it! She knew it was my last day there, so she went home and brought me the strap that same night. Such a nice thing to do!

Crossroads Fan Finds:

We love all our fans. That’s why picking one of you to feature each month is so hard but this time we really had to hand it to Sarah Ghosh for sporting her spring finds! This savvy Chicago fashionista rocks some of the hottest looks – from rompers to hats to boyfriend blazers – and all on a college student’s budget. We’re truly in awe of her awesome style.

Your Crossroads of choice is…? I live in Chicago and I regularly visit both the Lincoln Park and Wicker Park Crossroads. It is so difficult to choose between them! Both of them always have such unique and amazing pieces.

What do you love most about Crossroads? As a college student on a budget, I love the fact that I can buy a $400 dollar designer dress for less than $50! I also find that Crossroads has a wider and more refined variety of clothing than department stores because of all the great and experienced buyers on hand who know exactly what the customer wants. Crossroads has all the labels in one store… everything from H&M to Diane von Furstenberg… from Philip Lim to pieces from Anthropologie. Mixing and matching brands and styles has never been easier!

Do you have a favorite Crossroads experience? It’s really hard to say there was only one! Finding an item by any of my favorite designers always feels great. I found an embellished Nanette Lepore top that retails for $250 for $32 and a Milly dress that retails for $400 for $32! I also found a Moth cardigan that probably retails for over a $100 for $18 and a Sparrow sweater coat that retails for over $150 for $32. The staff at both the Crossroads I go to are always so helpful. Whenever I find something I like online I call up the store and they put it on hold for me right away. The service is fantastic.

How would you describe your style? I like to experiment with different color palettes, patterns, prints, textures and cuts. I’m always on the hunt for unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. I also travel a lot so I love to combine ethnic jewelry and clothing I bought overseas with a pair of shorts, tights or jeans. I’m always looking for statement pieces. Every outfit I wear has to have one statement piece.

Anything or anyone you’re currently obsessed with? I’m always following my favorite designers’ runway shows and their newest collections. My obsession?  Milly of New York, Nanette Lepore, Alice + Olivia, Rag and Bone and Chanel.

The next time you go into Crossroads, what’ll you be hunting for? Maxi dresses, boyfriend blazers, and rompers. My favorite colors for spring are shades of blue, pink and red. It’s finally Spring in Chicago.

What would your perfect day be like? Spending the day alongside Karl Lagerfield observing his work. A shopping spree with my girlfriends afterwards.

September 2009 Winner

I found the sweet saggy beanie that can be seen in the left photo. I also found the skinny jeans (Bulldog) that I’m wearing in the right photo. The beanie and jeans went very well together;  I was very satisfied when I found them.  I always find something to buy at Crossroads–I’m planning on going this weekend! Thanks, Crossroads!

“Crossroads is more than my go-to for fashion; it is my get away, eco conscious, need to look good for a special occasion, retail therapy, reward for a hard day’s work, and let’s hang out and thrift store. I got this dress under the “special occasion” category. For my 18th birthday, I decided to spend the day doing things I couldn’t until I turned 18, one of them selling some of my still-good clothing I was ready to let go of. In exchange, I found this sweet little dress for only $8.50. It was the perfect dress for the occasion, but it is also so much more. It is one of those great dresses that can be worn as cute-casual, but can also easily be dressed up for important occasions. And a dress with pockets, who doesn’t love that?”

“My best find at Crossroads you ask? More like, ‘My best finds are always at Crossroads!’

I can’t walk into a Crossroads and NOT find something! I saw this lovely Trina Turk, black cracked leather ‘Big Cypress’ shoulder bag (originally retailed at $535) at the Wicker Park location and just had to have it. Just look at it! You know you’re jealous it was me and not you who found it! ;)

July 2009 Honorable Mention

Honorable Mention

This month, we had to give an honorable mention to Lil Miss Hot Mess.   We loved this glamorous city shot and accompanying comments:

“I needed a dress for the opening night of Frameline33, the SF International LGBT Film Festival.   And you know, a drag queen’s got to look fierce, but since it was a nice affair I wanted to go a little extra classy.  When I saw this dress, I knew it was the one; it has this classic, vaguely Hepburn feel, and better yet, it was exactly the same color as all the festival posters.  So, I paired it with green tights and a marigold bow to get the color combo just right.  It’s an Isaac Mizrahi for Target.”

Congrats to our May Winner!

“I always–and I mean that literally– ALWAYS go to Crossroads for my treasures.  I have four favorite stores: Santa Monica on 4th St., Melrose Blvd. in Hollywood, Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood and the Costa Mesa store by my home.  This find came from the Costa Mesa store.  I had a shoot that was scheduled, and I went into the store hoping to find something…anything. I came out with many items, among them this amazing dress AND these crazy awesome shoes.    It doesn’t get much better than that.  Now not many people would pair the gladiator shoes with this dress, but I like to push the envelope just a little, and at Crossroads’ prices I can do that.”

Congrats To Our April Winner!

“I found the best find ever at Crossroads in Studio City, CA.  For months I had been eyeing Rachel Bilson’s adorable dress and I couldn’t find it anywhere.  One day, I was at wonderful Crossroads and I found it! In my size! I flipped out; it was only $12!  It was my lucky day. This dress is fabulous.  I wear it all the time and I get tons of compliments while wearing it. Super adorable!

Here is a picture of me wearing it with my fave Australian designer, Kelsey Jonathan’s, heels and my fave sunglasses by Chanel (My Chanel 5018 sunnies–Very rare!)”

Congrats To Our September Winner!

Congratulations to Cindy Nguyen, the September winner of our Best Crossroads Find contest.  She’s won a $50 Crossroads gift certificate.  You can see her winning photo and comments below:

“Here’s a picture of my favorite Crossroads finds.  The outfit, including the sun hat, were bought at Crossroads.  I love it because it’s the perfect beach or anywhere-on-the-go-in-the-sun outfit (It even has pockets shaped liked hearts!) It was a rare find at Crossroads, but one I knew I’d love once I tried it on.  I’ve gotten many compliments and “I want one too!”

Congrats To Our August Winner!

Tami Bears is the August winner or our Best Fashion Find contest.  She’s won a $25 Crossroads gift certificate.  Here are her winning photo and comments:

“This outfit is a mix of vintage and sweetness and both pieces were found in your Roseville store!

The top is a white eyelet halter bustier top made by Victoria’s Secret which I scored for only $13, and the skirt is pink tulle vintage ballet skirt that I found on clearance for only $4! The entire outfit was less than $20 and I wore it to the Sex & the City movie party with some girlfriends last June.

Thank you! I’ll be shopping soon to find more treasures!”

Congrats To Our July Winner!

Julie Basem is the July winner of our Best Fashion Find contest.  She’s just won a $25 Crossroads gift certificate.  Here are her winning photo and comments:

“First of all, thank you for existing.  Without your amazing store, I wouldn’t be able to afford my style.  I am a big fan of Betsey Johnson, but have never been able to buy anything in her store.  Not only does this dress fit me, but it was like someone made it just for me.  Not to mention how much I love the colors.  Every time I wear it, people compliment me and tell me I look luminous. I’ve never had anyone use that word before, and now I’ve heard it several times.  It doesn’t get any better than that.”
