As the summer season approaches, we begin to see a shift in everyone’s wardrobe. White color palettes, flowy 70’s maxi skirts and denim cut offs are the taking over closets. Some of the trends we are forecasting for the months to come aren’t too different than the ones we’re already seeing in our neighborhood, but there are definitely a few new ideas to spruce up what you already own! All fashions from Crossroads Trading on Griffith Park Blvd, in Silverlake, CA.

Tribal Prim

Tribal and Navajo prints have been making a strong comeback throughout the year. But this summer, the loud prints inspired by the 80’s are more prominent, making tribal print a perfect way to give your summer outfit an edge. From sundresses to tube tops, try tribal print pieces with strappy sandals and bold jewelry. Or perhaps you’re looking for an even harder edge? Don’t put away your boots just yet; pair them with a loud print for a new styling spin.

White Hot

Perhaps you are a bit more traditional for summer time; you like to keep it light and fresh. As seen in season’s past, all white is taking over the runways. Sometimes less is more, and keeping your outfit in a solid tone or all white can make a bigger statement then color. Clean and chic, white-on-white fits anyone’s style profile. For fun, try adding wooden beads and boots for that western look, or a flowy floor length dress with a denim jacket to keep the look modern. Dress it up or dress it down: the all white look is the perfect canvas for anyone’s individual style.

Not Your Mom’s Maxi Skirt

The maxi skirt you used to make fun of your mom for wearing is now all the rage in every magazine and street style look book. The maxi skirt look is here to stay. They come in every style and look possible – printed, plain jersey, sheer, pleated, tiered, floor length, ankle length – you name it! A personal favorite, try wearing a maxi skirt with sky -high wedges and an oversized boxy top. But that’s not all the maxi skirt can do. The long skirt is simply divine with flat sandals and a cropped jacket, or an oversized hat and a button up blouse for the 1970’s look that is flooding fashion blogs.

Who Wears Cutoff Shorts?

Before you sell all your denim shorts because you just feel like you are much too sophisticated to wear them, think twice. Denim shorts are quite possibly the exact thing you need to take that office outfit to ooh la la dinner and drinks. The denim short is a staple piece that every woman should have in her drawers. Finding a pair at an appropriate length for you, of course, is essential. Combine them with a tailored blazer and a pair of wedges and you have the perfect outfit for summer, while still looking put together. But do what you want with them! Perhaps you don’t need to look professional – wear them with an oversized top and gladiator sandals, or a feminine blouse and your favorite pair of oxfords. So take a second look at them before you trade them in for those trouser shorts – or maybe you need both?

Going Western

Right now we’re dying over fringe, boots and wooden beads – anything that says Western. This trend can be worked into any of the trends mentioned above, or any other trend you’re seeing on the street right now. Incorporate it minimally with some cowboy boots or a long beaded necklace, or for a more indie feel, try a white fringed top. If you’re feeling brave like we are, go all out with a leather halter vest and denim cutoffs. Forget about bringing out your sailor stripes, this year bring out the beads and boots. We say try this trend at least once, even if you‘re not convinced just yet.
