February 28th, 2017 by Jennifer Beile Round-Up: Top 4 Spring Shoe Trends

The weather is warming up and stores are switching over to their spring and summer lines. This year, it’s all about fun, bold, and quirky pieces, including shoes. Are you more of a lace-up girl or a funky flatform one? These trends may not be entirely new, but they have been reinvented for 2017. Put a little ‘spring’ in your step and take a look at this year’s top spring shoe trends.

All Wrapped Up

Lace-up sandals and heels will be everywhere this season and are such a fun alternative to a traditional flat or heel.

The Flatform

Give your feet a break while keeping the boost of a heel. The flatform shoe is back and better than ever.

Kitten Heels

The return of this trend may garner mixed reactions. From sandals to booties, stilettos to block, the ’80s kitten heel is back and will either be loved or hated.

Slides, Slippers, and Sandals

2017 fashion is looking like it’ll be made up of the most comfortable trends, and that includes shoes. Slides, slippers, and sandals will make your feet happy while you stay on trend.

February 1st, 2017 by Julius Adorsu Sneaker Maintenance: How to Clean Your Shoes

I wouldn’t consider myself a sneakerhead, but I sure do love shoes. And I’m hard on them—they were designed for outdoor activities, after all. They can pretty unpleasant after wearing them to parties or just the regular day-to-day abuse. I’ve been told that the first thing people look at when they meet you is your shoes. Those bad boys better be sparkling clean!

Treat the items that you value as well as they treat you. Your car gets you around, and after certain mileage you have to do maintenance. Well, the same thing applies to your shoes after some hard miles.

To help me do some sneaker maintenance I picked up the Jason Markk essential kit, but you can use any gentle brush and shoe-cleaning solution.

The shoes I’m cleaning are not only some of my favorite sneakers on rotation, they’re also #CrossroadsFinds that I picked up for less than $20 a pair!

The process is very simple and only requires three things: a brush, some cleaning solution, and a bowl of water.

The Fila before cleaning:

The Nike before cleaning:

The part of my shoes I most struggle to keep clean is the back of the sole, so naturally that’s the part I focused on the most.

With some light scrubbing and very little effort, I was absolutely blown away with the results.

The Fila after cleaning:

The Nike after cleaning:

As a frequent thrifter, I’m always finding sneakers that just need a little maintenance.  I’m very pleased with the results of this cleaning set, especially for the price. I purchased my set at a local Chicago sneaker store for under $18 with tax. You can find it on the Jason Markk website for just $16 + tax and shipping.  If you’re looking to clean your shoes, this kit is great!

Truth: I just turned 32 and I’ve been working for Crossroads since I was 22. Needless to say, my style has change a lot over the last decade. Luckily (thanks to Crossroads), I’ve spent the last decade trading in styles that may not be “me” any longer for new and improved pieces fit for a woman in her thirties.

If you’re anything like me, you probably have a kind of “style uniform” and an appreciation for investment pieces. Of course, your taste will continue to evolve, and experimenting with trends from time to time is always fun, but now’s the time in your life to think of the adage “fewer, better things.”

October 25th, 2016 by Jennifer Beile How to Find the Perfect Fall Boots

Not all boots are created equal. Although they are universally flattering on all types of outfits and bodies, there are certain boot styles that are more flattering for your body frame.

I have always been one to wear whatever I want, however I want it, not basing my fashion choices on my body type. Don’t be daunted into thinking there are boots that you cannot or should not wear. These tips are just to help you look and feel your best in a pair of must-have fall boots.

For Shorter Legs:

Wear short ankle booties with a heel and choose boots that are a similar color to an element of your outfit to elongate the look.

For Muscular Legs:

You’ve worked hard to sculpt those beautiful calves, and you deserve to show them off! Find a pair of short ankle booties with a wide opening, and opt for a heel and zippers over bulky buckles.

For Longer Legs

You can definitely pull off those sleek tall and mid-calf boots. You can also let your natural tallness take center stage and give your feet a rest with a low or flat heel.

When Comfort is Key:

Choose round or flat toe boots to give your feet a bit more wiggle room. Your feet will be happy and you’ll be able to show off your boots a little longer without ending the day in soreness.

Of course, the best style is the one you love and feel comfortable in! What’s your go-to style of fall boots?
