Ah, the ’90s. The decade of grunge, hip hop, pop, and preppy style that continues to inspire us today. If you didn’t grow up in the ’90s, chances are you’ve heard time and time again that they were the best time for fashion and music, and—though I may be biased—I have to agree.
There’s a reason why ’90s style trends are constantly coming back; the carefree spirit and attitude of ’90s fashion hasn’t been able to be recreated or replicated. Why fix something if it’s not broken? Let’s celebrate by taking a look back at some of the biggest style icons of the decade.
One of the most sought after young actresses in the ’80s and ’90s, Lisa Bonet has a rebellious, free-spirited, bohemian style all her own that we still covet today. Lisa’s daughter, actress Zoe Kravitz, has inherited her mother’s style and become a modern fashion icon in her own right.
From grunge to happy hippie, Drew’s style embodies her free spirit and was as expressive as her contagious smile. As long as ’90s trends keep coming back in style, ’90s Drew will always be an inspiration!
Mixing classic, punk, and athleisure style, there is no doubt (pun intended) that Gwen Stefani is a quintessential ’90s girl.
Before the legal controversies and her comeback with Stranger Things, Winona Ryder was a ’90s movie star and style icon. Her grunge style and attitude made her one of the “it” girls of the decade!
Supermodel Kate Moss just has classic street style; we could literally wear the exact outfits today and be super on trend!
For over 20 years, Jennifer Aniston has been a consistent style icon, having crafted the perfect classic, effortless style we all crave.
Style icons are one of my “things.” I love to search them out, listen to them talk, hear their thoughts on style and learn from them. This week, I’m rounding up three YouTube videos featuring three style icons getting ready, talking about style and letting us in on their science of dressing up.
In this Allure video, Lola Rykiel lets us into her home and takes us on a journey within the fashion legacy she is a part of.
In another Allure video, Yasmin Sewell shares her style secrets and how she makes things her own.
In this Vogue Paris video, Veronika Heibrunner gets dressed, and it is SO FUN to watch her process.
Who are your favorite Youtube style icons?
This week, our style icon is someone who dresses other icons for a living. Djuna Bel is an LA-based stylist who loves vintage and expertly mixes her finds with high-end designer pieces. She runs with a fabulous crowd of models and keeps the inspiration flowing. There really is no way to define her style, because she mixes so many quirky pieces together.
Become inspired by Djuna Bel.
This week, we’re focusing on one of the “Girls” whose style is all her own. She is Jemima Kirke.
From her character on Girls to her real-life self walking down the streets of New York, Jemima always keeps it unique and effortless. She mixes vintage into her looks to keep them interesting, but she also knows how to rock a designer piece like the rest of them. She is one to watch.
This week’s style icon is Sofía Sanchez de Betak. She is a model and influencer who jet-sets around the world showing off the most enviable outfit creations. Her looks have an element of effortless ease mixed with over-the-top fabulous! She keeps her face fresh with no-fuss, slicked back hair, and then goes to town on her wardrobe creating looks that stop the show. Her style is a mix of feminine flair and masculine tailoring.
She is one to keep your eye on.
