May 23rd. 2017 by Jennifer Beile Round Up: How to Wear this Summer’s Boldest Colors

This summer is all about bold, vibrant colors! The season’s usual hues are still prominent: bold blues, hot reds, and all the white you can get in before Labor Day—but we’re going to focus on the newest, boldest colors we’ve seen all over the runways.

Don’t be shy this summer—show off your color confidence in neon yellow, bold fuchsia, and tropical green! Take a look at some of my favorite ways to add these colors into your wardrobe.

Neon Yellow

NeonYellow

The boldest of the bold, neon yellow may appear to be one of the hardest colors to incorporate into a typical wardrobe, but it can be done both subtly and daringly. Look for accessories—like a bralette, jewelry, or shoes—to start with, find pieces that mix neon yellow with similar colors, or have fun with a fully neon yellow blouse or dress!

Fuchsia

colors

A “look at me!” color for sure! Fuchsia will make you and everyone around you smile. Wear it with confidence. Fuchsia especially shines with feminine pieces, but don’t be afraid to mix it up and wear it in more androgynous styles.

Tropical Greens

TropicalGreen

The Pantone color of the year is Greenery, so it only makes sense that during the summer, we should kick it up a notch and wear our greens in all sorts of styles and prints! Nothing says tropical like green, and even if you’re not able to make it to a tropical location this year for your summer vacation, you can still look the part.

May 9th, 2017 by Jennifer Beile Round-Up: Unexpected Trends of 2017

Trends come and go in waves; some are modernized, revamped, and welcomed back with open arms, while others take some time to be accepted and embraced. Lately, I’ve seen some surprising statement trends slowly making their way back into stores and editorials—and they have me scratching my head a bit. Not one to judge, I am diving in and rounding up a few of the latest unexpected trends to share with our Crossroads readers.

Scrunchies:

unexpected trend

You read that right—the hair tie of your childhood has snuck into your adult life, and you’ll more than likely be seeing it in stores again. If you’re tempted to grab a few out of nostalgia, you won’t be the first or the last. To easily incorporate it into your modern wardrobe, keep it in the same color family as your outfit’s, or wear a neutral color like white on your wrist as a fun accessory.

Denim Maxi Skirts:

unexpected trends

The bane of my existence growing up in the ’80s and ’90s: the denim maxi skirt. We saw the return of denim mini and midi skirts this past year, so it was only inevitable that we would be seeing the maxi come back as well. I will admit that I was not a fan of its original run, but today’s cuts have been updated, and I can’t say that I’m mad about it. Details like frayed edges, layers, and high slits have really revamped the denim maxi.

Dresses Over Pants:

Dress Over Pants

I rocked this look in high school and after seeing photos of myself years later, I was so happy that this was not a trend anymore… until now. This early 2000s look typically consists of a mini dress—usually with embellishments like ruffled layers—worn over low-rise flared denim. Today’s modern take on a dress-and-pants combo is a big improvement. Try a button-down maxi dress fastened a quarter of the way over high-waisted distressed denim, or a sheer dress with high slits over a slim pant.

Furry Shoes:

Fur Shoes

I’ve been surprised to see shoes with fur accents taking over as much as they have. I didn’t think they were a practical shoe choice for the everyday women, but this is one surprising trend that I am definitely loving. Who says your shoe choice needs to be practical, anyway? Fur-accented mules, loafers, and heels add a bit of excitement and fun to your outfit.

August 2nd, 2016 by Jennifer Beile Round Up: How to Wear the Newest Summer Trends

Confession: I am a trend lover and follower. I’m not a sheep that will wear anything just because it’s popular, but I love following trends and trying out the fun ones, even if they may not seem the most practical for everyday style. That’s why I love thrifting and (don’t judge me) fast-fashion stores. I’m able to find items that work with new trends without draining my bank account for something I’ll potentially only wear for a season.

So, I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite new summer trends that may be a bit harder to pull off, along with a few tips on how to make them more everyday-appropriate!

Slipdress

The Slip Dress

I am loving this trend on models and street style stars, but I find it hard to not feel like I’m wearing my nightie out. Try dressing down your slip dress by layering it over a t-shirt, throwing in a casual light jacket, wearing a longer length, or wearing flats.

The Bodysuit

I loved the look from day one, but how do you wear a bodysuit without feeling too confined—or feeling like a baby in a onesie all day? The fit is key. Try one on with bottoms on over the top and take your time wearing it, making sure you’re comfortable. Bodysuits are super simple, versatile pieces. I love pairing them with anything high waist and not having to worry about my tuck all day!

Ruffles

Ruffles

Ruffles are for little girls, right? Wrong! Ruffles are playful and can be subtly sexy when you find the right piece. Start small and if you feeling adventurous, go big on the sleeves of your top or on the hem of your skirt!

StatementSleeves

Statement Sleeves

Statement sleeves can absolutely be practical for everyday style. The key is keeping the rest of your outfit simple. Let the sleeves be the star!

Which summer trends will you try this season?
