FAQ
Selling at Crossroads
How does it work and what should I expect when I come in to sell?
Thank you for choosing to sell at Crossroads! Visit any Crossroads (excluding our Stockton outlet) to sell. No appointment is necessary.
Make sure to bring a government-issued ID or, if you’re under 18, an adult with a government-issued ID.
You’ll be greeted and instructed to join the waitlist when you arrive (Pro tip: download the Crossroads Waitlist App for a real-time look at line length and to join the waitlist before getting to the store).
When it’s your turn, you’ll either receive a text or your name will be called.
A Buyer will create a digital account for you and go through your items. You can shop the store or stay with your Buyer during this time. If you have any questions before they get started, or want to approve prices before items are made available for sale, you should inform your buyer right away. Otherwise, the buyer will price, sensor, and tag all items they buy, making them immediately available for sale.
The Buyer will tell you how much cash or trade you’ve earned. From what we price your items at, you’ll receive your choice of a 50% store credit or 30% cash.
When your buy is complete, visit the register to get your payout, or return another day to claim it. Your earned balance is automatically applied to your Crossroads digital account, available in any of our stores by providing your ID and phone number.
How do your Buyers choose what items to buy?
Our goal is to buy as much as we can from every person who comes in to sell. Buyers take into consideration the overall condition, season, and style of an item, in addition to knowledge about current stock levels and what our customers are actively buying. We will pass on items we know are not currently selling well in our stores.
You are always welcome and encouraged to ask your buyer any and all questions you have about the selling process, including what they’re taking, how they’re pricing, why they’re passing, and what we’re looking for.
Can you tell me if you’ll buy a specific piece or how much you’ll pay me for it before I bring it in?
Since all buying decisions are made in person at our selling counters, we are unable to provide selling estimates or confirm if we would buy an item over email. Please bring your items to your local Crossroads to have one of our knowledgeable Buyers assist you.
To get an idea of what we’re looking for, check out our latest Selling Guide.
I brought in something that is on the Selling Guide. Why didn’t you buy it?
Our buyers purchase what they know will work best for their specific location based on current inventory, what’s selling, and what’s not selling. You’re always welcome to ask our buyers any questions about why they passed on items, or what specific items or brands they’re looking for.
Is there anything you don't buy?
We buy on-trend men’s and women’s clothing, shoes and accessories. We do not buy children’s items, formal wear, traditional business wear, intimates, items with extreme wear or counterfeit items.
What is consignment, and how is it different than regular selling?
We offer consignment on luxury, collectible or designer goods. When you choose to consign your items, you’ll get paid when the items sell instead of right away. Payouts for consignment items range from 50-70%, depending on the selling price. If you have an item you’d like to consign, talk to your Buyer.
What brands do you specifically buy?
We buy the brands and designers that are popular today. We don’t keep a strict list of what labels we do and don’t buy, but some labels and designers that our customers want right now are Anthropologie, Ralph Lauren, Free People, Levi’s, Sezane, Ganni, Everlane, Aritzia, The Row, Vince, The Northface, Salomon, Carhartt, Essentials, Moncler, Rick Owens, Jaded London, Miaou, Zadig & Voltaire, All Saints, and many more. Most importantly, we buy items that are in excellent condition, in season and on trend.
Do you buy fast fashion?
We buy based on the trends and styles selling well for us, and are sometimes more selective on brands with a lower original retail value. You may see some of those brands in our store, but ultimately our buyers will purchase what they know will work best for their specific location.
Do you buy plus sizes?
We are always looking for current, trendy, and contemporary items in all sizes. We also take style, condition, and label into consideration when making our final buying decisions.
Do you buy faux items?
Crossroads does not knowingly buy counterfeit goods. Our buyers are trained to spot fakes and make sure not to buy them.
Sometimes our Buyers will ask for additional authentication materials or proof or purchase before buying or consigning a designer item. Getting this information allows us to answer customer questions on behalf of you, and to price your item higher so you earn more.
Can I donate the clothes you decide not to buy from me?
We do not take donations after you sell in person. Those items will be returned to you.
Why did my Buyer price and tag my item before confirming the price with me?
It’s our standard procedure for Buyers to price and sensor items as they go, and all items are available for sale immediately. If you would like to know pricing before we sensor items, or have any questions about the selling process or our buying decisions, just let your buyer know at the start of your buy.
Why did you pass on my item when I see something similar or damaged on the sales floor?
We understand how it can be confusing if we pass on an item similar to something you see on our sales floor. If an item is still on our sales floor, it means it hasn’t sold and may not be what our customers are looking for.
We may also pass if we currently have more than enough of a certain style, or based on seasonal considerations.
We try our best to have quality control at our counters and never intentionally sell damaged items.
Is there a maximum number of items I can bring in to sell? Should I bring items in on hangers?
There is no limit to how many items you can bring in to sell, although if it’s your first time selling we recommend you sort through your items and bring a manageable selection of items for us to look through.
Keep in mind, you’ll have to bring in and take back anything we don’t buy, which is why it’s helpful to start with a smaller selection.
It is most efficient for our Buyers to evaluate your items if they are neatly folded in bags, rather than on hangers. We may dispose of hangers if you do bring them in.
Why did one of your locations buy my items and another did not?
Our buyers are trained to purchase items they know will work best for their specific location based on current inventory, what’s selling, and what’s not selling. What may sell well in one location may not sell well in another.
I don’t have time to sell in person at Crossroads. Is there any other way to sell?
Yes! Sell to Crossroads without making a trip to the store with our Sell by Mail program. Send us your clothing, shoes and accessories in a pre-paid UPS bag. Receive cash or trade for the items we buy in! Learn more here.
We also offer drop-off selling at select stores. Bring your items in, fill out a form and return for your payout. Learn more here.
Additional questions or feedback?
Our goal is to deliver excellent customer service and for each customer to leave with a clear understanding of what we buy and why. If you ever have any questions, feel free to ask our Buyers in-store. If you would like to share feedback about your in-store experience, you are welcome and encouraged to ask for a manager to share your thoughts in person. Sharing your feedback with a manager allows us the chance to learn where we can improve. It also typically leads to the quickest response and results. Otherwise, if you have additional questions, would like to share feedback, or be contacted by a member of senior management, please email comments@crossroadstrading.com.
