I don’t know about you, but I can’t afford to have a wardrobe reserved for every season (which is yet another reason I love being able to save money shopping recycled fashion at Crossroads!). I mix and match almost my entire wardrobe throughout the year, save for heavier winter pieces.

Having a limited wardrobe shouldn’t restrict your outfit choices; it just requires a little creativity. Wearing winter pieces into the hot summer months can be a bit tricky, so I’ve rounded up a few very simple ways that will keep you cool and stylish.

Button-Down Shirts

Button-down shirts are a classic staple throughout the year, but they can admittedly feel a bit heavy as temperatures rise. Simply rolling up the sleeves, investing in a short-sleeved button-down, tying the ends at your waist, or leaving a couple extra buttons undone will create a look that is both functionally and aesthetically cool.

While you can get away with wearing a silky scarf or bandana around your neck on cooler summer days, if your temps are reaching the triple digits, they are better used to keep your hair off your neck.

Booties

I wear booties all year round, but once the temperatures rise, I stay away from pairing them with denim or pants. Overheating is no way to enjoy the summer! Balance the femininity of your summer dresses with your winter booties.

Lightweight Layering Pieces

Your lightweight long sleeves aren’t just for layering under sweaters during the winter; wear them under silky dresses and camisoles during the cooler summer months.

SweatersAndCardigans

Sweaters and Cardigans

I am a total ‘90s girl at heart; I’ve been tying shirts around my waist for two decades and don’t see an end in sight. Something about that added layer adds an instant “cool factor” to your outfit. Tie your lightweight sweaters and cardigans around your waist to cinch in a shapeless dress or top, or simply to add an accessory piece to your outfit.

The Fourth of July is always a great reason to spend time with your loved ones and celebrate your love for good ole ‘Merica. Whether you’re heading to a barbecue or beach bonfire or camping out for fireworks, there’s an outfit for every occasion on Independence Day. Up your July 4th style game with a few outfit ideas from your favorite fashion bloggers. With these six easy outfit ideas, you’ll be looking patriotic in no time:

4th of July
Select a monochrome outfit (in red, white or blue, obviously) that’s perfect for rocking at a barbecue or picnic.

Here’s an outfit that will take a few more pieces to pull off. Style nautical stripes with white outerwear and blue and red accents.

P3 - Hapa Time
There’s no better way to make a statement on the 4th of July than with a stars-and-stripes bodycon suit that does all the talking. This ensemble works great for celebrating at the beach, so don’t forget to layer on the sunblock!

P4 - Hello Fashion Blog
If you want a similar casual look for the holiday, try starting with a classic patriotic graphic tee, a pair of jeans and white sneakers. It’s comfy and cute—perfect for a barbecue and fireworks.

P5 - Publicist in Pearls
Red and white stripes are always a go-to pick for celebrating the 4th of July. Steal a page from The Golden Diamonds’s style playbook and pair a crop top with a striped midi skirt. Finish off this look with a star-patterned bag.

P6 - The Golden Diamonds
Is this not the cutest striped jumpsuit for celebrating the holiday? The best part is that this outfit doesn’t have to be worn exclusively for the 4th of July.
