October 2nd, 2018 by Jennifer Beile Round Up: 4 Ways to Elevate Plaid This Fall

Plaid for fall is about as groundbreaking as florals for spring. But it’s a classic print that is quintessentially autumnal and somehow reinvented each year with new color palettes, new vibes and moods, and unexpected fabrics and shapes.  Don’t just designate plaid to oversize button-down tops and leggings. Instead, take a look at 4 ways to elevate plaid this fall.

1. Plaid Print Mixing

Plaid on plaid is double the fun! To pull off mixing plaid prints, pair contrasting colors and sizes of the print, like Michelle did with her yellow plaid blouse and green plaid suit.

2. Opposites Attract

Style your favorite plaid piece with an unexpected texture like leather or sequins. Bethany takes athleisure to a new level with plaid trousers paired with a sequin hoodie.

3. Go Big With the Print

An exaggerated or stretched plaid in soft colors creates a minimalist look.

4. Suit Up

Undoubtedly the most popular way to elevate plaid this season is with a blazer and/or suit combo.

Of course, there are more than 4 ways to elevate plaid this fall! We’d love to see how you wear it. Share your looks with us on Instagram by tagging us @crossroadstrading.

September 6th, 2018 by Jennifer Beile Can You Wear White After Labor Day?

Hint: absolutely!

The antiquated no-white-after-Labor-Day rule appears to have originated in the late 19th century, when white was considered only proper for summer vacation attire (before bare arms and legs were appropriate, color and fabric were often the only difference between seasonal clothing). After Labor Day became a federal holiday, it unofficially signaled the end of the summer and vacations, meaning there was no longer a need to wear vacation clothing—so all white clothing was put away until the next year. Darker color clothing was a signal for the end of summer and a return to work.

Thankfully, somewhere between then and now, this arbitrary fashion rule has become outdated. Fashion and lifestyle have evolved and there are many more ways to keep cool in the summer besides lightweight white pieces. Lucky for us, that means we get to wear our favorite white pieces year round.  Take a look at some of the most chic ways to wear white after Labor Day this year!

When updating your fall wardrobe, pick up a cozy cable knit sweater in white or cream.

A white denim jacket brings a fresh perspective to a those gloomy fall days.

Blazers are the perfect transition piece. Dress down a white blazer by pairing it with jeans and sneakers.

Add a trendy pair of white wide-leg pants or denim into your fall wardrobe rotation.

Don’t pack away your silky slip dresses just yet. Layer a blazer or an oversized sweater to get more wear out of them.

Dare to wear an all-white outfit with dark accessories for a chic autumn look.

August 14th, 2018 by Jennifer Beile 3 Summer Trends to Take Into Fall

Summer may be coming to an end sooner than we want, but that doesn’t mean that your favorite fashion trends have to be stashed away in the back of your closet until next year. Fall is all about layering and transitional dressing, meaning it’s easier than ever to get the most out of your summer wardrobe.

Here are three summer trends you can take into the fall season, plus how to style them for the cooler weather!

1. Silky Slip Skirts and Dresses

Top your silky slip with a chunky knit sweater and a great pair of boots, and you’ll have a new go-to outfit this fall!

2. Neon Colors

The weather may be a bit more dreary in the fall, but that doesn’t mean your wardrobe has to be. From sweaters to accessories and makeup, don’t be afraid to bring your favorite bright and bold neon colors into fall.

3. Breezy White Dresses

Breaking the rule of not wearing white after Labor Day has become almost expected—fall and winter whites are now a wardrobe staple! Layer up your favorite white summer dresses, or look for a white dress with full, exaggerated sleeves and finish it with a pair of your favorite sneakers or booties.
