October 18, 2022 Q&A with Nayeli of @nextstopnayeli

We can’t tell you enough how much glee we get from scrolling through #crossroadsfinds and discovering the customers and influencers that shop our stores, like secondhand enthusiast, Nayeli of @nextstopnayeli. We reached out to her to learn more about what draws her to sustainable fashion, and what trends she’s excited about this season.

Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hi! I’m Nayeli, and I’m a fashion blogger from Los Angeles, California. I love inspiring women to have the courage to start dressing however they want, because when you look good, you feel good!

You’re a big proponent of slow fashion and feature your styled looks on IG, Tik Tok, and YouTube. When did you start shopping for secondhand fashion?

I started shopping secondhand for fun in high school, but I took it more seriously after college. It was then that I had an epiphany moment. I realized that the clothes I wear tell people who I am before I have a chance to explain. First impressions are important, and clothes play a huge role in that.

If you scroll through my old Instagram posts, you’ll see that a lot of my outfits were different variations of black and gray, which can be chic. However, I felt like those outfits and colors weren’t reflective of who I am. I knew I wanted to change my style in a way that was sustainable. I made a promise to myself that I would buy secondhand first and buy new only if I would keep and wear it for a long time.

So now I have a much more eclectic personal style and experiment by incorporating colors, textures, and silhouettes that help
convey my personality –which is fun, creative, and sexy.

Thank you for sharing your #crossroadsfinds too! How did you discover us?

I discovered Crossroads in high school! When I walked into the Pasadena store for the first time, I fell in love with how curated everything was, and still is! It made shopping for cool and unique pieces a lot easier, and it has been a favorite go-to spot for secondhand clothes ever since.

Please share your best secondhand find ever.

My best secondhand find would have to be this red popcorn crop top. The texture of the top grabbed me immediately, and I always get asked where it’s from. Unfortunately, there’s no label attached.

Which trends are you most excited about this fall season?

I’ve been so inspired by 90s fall fashion. It’s an interesting decade for fashion because people incorporated vintage, minimalism, and maximalism all at once! Specifically, I think we’re going to see a lot more fuzzy 90s mohair textures and patterned long-sleeved mesh tops this fall.

October 13, 2022 The Investment Piece: A Navy Suit

A navy suit is one of those fashion investment pieces that tops our list. Alongside the LBD, the leather jacket, and the designer handbag, a navy suit can be worn with a silk blouse or t-shirt and still look sophisticated.

You once needed to find a tailor to get a great-looking (and expensive) navy suit with a perfect fit. Nowadays, however, even popular mall brands are producing suits in quality fabrics and fits.

Find one that fits your budget, and then plan to wear it for years to come. Better yet, find one in your nearest fashion resale shop, like Crossroads Trading.

Here are just a few of the styles to look for:

Double-Breasted

The OG navy suit. Double down and get one with pinstripes.

Cropped

Show a bit of ankle so you can get eyes on your shoes.

Velvet

You’ll feel absolutely regal in a velvet version.

Casual

Suits come in more casual styles too, like this matching set with a cropped lapel and sleeves.

Skirt Set

Don’t forget the skirt suit set! We currently like them with peplum waists and skirts that hit below the knee.

October 11, 2022 When Western Style Meets Fall

Western style grows in popularity in the fall when seasonal activities like harvest festivals and pumpkin patch visits hit our calendars.

While the pieces involved in western style are casual, there’s something distinct about the look that makes it a classic. That’s we included the style in our seasonal selling guide for this reason.

And we don’t encourage a head-to-toe western look. Instead, bring just a few key pieces into your wardrobe to achieve this style. In fact, here are 7 western style pieces we’re looking for this fall, especially when we’re out shopping secondhand.

A Denim Shirt

We like a dark denim. For added flair, look for western-style pockets.

Fringe Details

Just a touch on your jacket or handbag gives a nod to the style.

Vintage Plaid

There’s something about the soft, faded colors of a vintage plaid that gives off western vibes.

Western Accessories

Sometimes achieving the look is as simple as a western belt buckle or cowboy boots.

A Blanket Coat

The ultimate in cozy fall adventure wear.

Western Shirt

Look for the classic details, like pocket details and piping.
