November 15, 2022 Festive Feather Dresses

We’ve reached that point in the year where all we can think about are holiday outfits, like feather dresses. The holidays provide a special opportunity to dress a little over the top, and for fashion lovers like us, that makes shopping in our stores extra exciting.

Glitter, sequins, and feathers are the eye-catching details we look for when browsing the racks. In secondhand fashion shops like ours, the racks being filled with vintage, contemporary, and designer pieces mean there are so many treasures to be found!

Take a look below at some of the feather dresses that are inspiring us this season. We love how even just a hint of feathers at a hemline takes a dress to the next level. Don’t be afraid to add feathered accessories too.

November 8, 2022 Q&A with Becky of @beckytsivin

You know we love to come across secondhand fashion enthusiasts on Instagram like Becky of @beckytsivin. When we saw her feed of fashion and decor inspiration, we had to reach out and learn more. Read our Q&A with her below, then pop over to her feed to see for yourself!

Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hi! My name is Becky and I currently live in Chicago with my partner and two beautiful kitties, Smudge and Opal. I grew up around the Chicagoland area and have lived in the city now for about 8 years. I’m really passionate about plants, rollerblading, swimming in Lake Michigan, and golden hour. Currently, I work in the social media & influencer space for a wellness brand.

You share your love of secondhand fashion and home decor on your IG feed. What originally drew you to thrifting?
Oh my gosh! This is such an awesome question. I’m a huge secondhand and vintage lover when it comes to both my closet and my home. I actually started thrifting back in late middle school/early high school. That’s over 10 years ago now, which is crazy! I was really drawn to the fact that you could find such unique and good-quality pieces. A lot of people I knew were shopping at H&M or Forever 21, but I always felt like I couldn’t find anything I liked there. And if I did, it wasn’t the best quality. One day, I popped into my local Savers with one of my best friends, and the rest is history! I remember everything I got so vividly, and I actually still have one piece (a really awesome hand-embroidered denim jacket) from that first EVER thrift trip. I think I’ll hold onto it for quite some time, as it’s very sentimental to me.

Thank you for tagging us so we can see your #crossroadsfinds! Do you have a favorite piece that you found in one of our stores?
Yes! I’m an avid Crossroads go-er and quite often frequent the store near me! When I think about some of my favorite pieces over the years, a few come to mind. First, I found a pair of beautiful Agolde jeans that I’ve worn so much and consistently wear to this day. Such great quality denim! I also found a brand new pair of Jeffrey Campbell loafers at a time when I was looking for loafers to incorporate into my wardrobe, which was awesome. The most recent find that I’ve been loving is an Aritzia cashmere sweater, which is just perfect for fall and winter. Crossroads always has the best staple pieces for such a reasonable price. I also love the fact that it’s more curated in selection – it makes finding something on your thrifting wishlist a bit easier!

Your Chicago apartment is a plant oasis. Please tell us your secret for creating such a special space in the city.
Yes, I have roughly about 45 plants, and I love them all so much! Many of them have been with me for years, which is really special. Honestly, my secret is just good natural lighting, drainage in your pots, and making sure you have a good watering schedule. I feel at peace when I’m surrounded by greenery, and being able to take care of all of these plants and welcome more into my household makes me feel so happy! Having a special space at home where you can relax and unwind from the buzz of the city is a must for me. I feel like having plants in a home space just makes it so much warmer, inviting, and lively.

What are you hoping to thrift next?
I’m ALWAYS writing down what I’m hoping to thrift next in my notes app, or pinning it on a Pinterest board! I feel like when I’m curating a list of items that I’m on the hunt for, it makes my thrifting experience so much easier. I’ve definitely been wanting to thrift the perfect pair of oversized trousers, a really good wool chunky knit or cardigan for winter layering, and I have absolutely been obsessed with the Realisation Par Rosalita dress and think that the style and shape are so flattering. A dress like that is absolutely a DREAM find of mine!

November 3, 2022 Secondhand Holiday Fashion Ideas

Yes, it’s finally November, and we have holiday fashion on our minds! Even better, we’re on the hunt for secondhand holiday fashion, and there’s no better place to start looking than in our stores across the country.

Admittedly, every time this year, we find ourselves searching for the same types of fashion items. We always shop for shiny, shimmery, and decadent holiday fashion pieces. The more stand-out the piece, then the more we like it!

For dresses, jumpsuits, shirts, and pants, we look for silky fabrics in rich tones like burgundy, emerald green, and purple. Textures like brocade and leather are on our list too.

For accessories, we look for metallic colors and gemstone details. We can’t get enough of glitter and glamour, and finding vintage holiday pieces is like striking gold.

Take a look at some of the secondhand holiday fashion pieces that have come through our stores. You may find they’re just perfect for your upcoming holiday event calendar.

November 1, 2022 Make Money with Sell by Mail Clothes

With the holidays on the horizon, now is the time to consider making money with Sell by Mail clothes. These are pre-loved but excellent condition clothes that no longer fit your style or wardrobe needs.

The way we see it, this is like money taking up space in your closet! Plus, by selling them in any of our stores or by mail, you can get them into the hands of new owners who find them valuable thrifted treasures. This keeps your unused clothing out of landfill and circulating in a more sustainable fashion system.

So you have Sell by Mail clothes on hand and ready to show a buyer. What comes next? Here is how the process works at Crossroads:

Crossroads Sell by Mail Timeline

If you think you might have clothes to sell by mail, start by looking at our online seasonal selling guide, where we highlight the current trends we’re looking for. Then, search your closet for gently used items that fit the bill. If you find them, request a bag from our website and get ready to fill it with your sell by mail clothes.
