March 4, 2025 Women’s History Month Employee Spotlight: Julie
In honor of Women’s History Month, we’re turning the spotlight on some of the women leaders at Crossroads who have played a key role in the company’s 33-year history.
Today, we’d like to introduce you to Julie Brown, a Vice President & Regional Manager who has been serving the Crossroads community for over 26 years!
Meet Julie
Please tell us a little about your career journey at Crossroads.
I started out as a Store Manager, opening our Berkeley store in 1998. After that, I managed the Castro and Fillmore stores in San Francisco until I became a District Manager in 2000, overseeing the Sacramento/Central Valley area and the South Bay. In 2006, I was given the Vice President title, and in 2021 was promoted to Regional Manager of the Bay Area, Sacramento/Central Valley, and Chicago.
What part of your Crossroads career makes you most proud?
I am most proud of helping, mentoring, and training the next generation of CTC leaders. There are so many people I’ve worked with who have grown and taken on new roles. It makes me happy to see their success.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
I have two favorites, and both are equal. One is seeing the broad range of designers, brands, and styles we get in. I never get tired of buying. I went to school for fashion design initially, then realized I did not love sewing but had strong leadership skills. So, I graduated with a degree in fashion merchandising and minored in business administration. Working at Crossroads, I’m able to use my degree and align it with my love of fashion and personal ethics.
My other favorite part is the people. I love the people I work with, the teams in the stores, and our customers. There are co-workers and customers I’ve known for 20+ years; that is rare in retail!
What do you love to do on your day off?
Hike the beautiful Bay Area trails and be outside all day.
What advice would you give to people who want to start a career in fashion?
Find what you’re passionate about, be open to all opportunities (even when they are unexpected), be curious, and ask questions. Most importantly, believe in yourself!
