October 15, 2024 A Halloween Costume with Secondhand Style

Do you have your Halloween costume ready yet? If you’re feeling stumped, the creative team members in our stores have some great ideas for you. We checked our regional Instagram feeds to see what they’re showcasing. Take a look at 4 ways they used secondhand finds from our racks to create some really fun Halloween looks!

1. Pick Re-wearable Pieces

This is one of our favorite costume tactics. Create a costume out of items you know you’ll wear again in the future, mixed with different pieces.

2. Create a Group Look

Get your friends involved and re-create a famous group. We think our Berkeley store did an amazing job here with the Scooby-Doo crew!

2. Imitate Famous Movie Characters

Grab your phone and do a Google search for the most famous movie characters. Then screenshot their signature looks and go secondhand shopping! Chances are, you’ll walk away with classic pieces you’ll wear waaaayyyy past Halloween.

4. Keep it Simply Spooky

Keep your look simple by grabbing a Halloween-themed tee. Here’s an example from one of our store windows that’s perfect for a night of watching scary movies.

October 10, 2024 Travel Easy with Oversized Handbags

Whether we’re taking a long flight or heading out for a weekend road trip, we find that oversized handbags make everything easier. Who doesn’t want to reach into their handbag on a long flight and find a vast array of travel treats like a fashion magazine, a bag of white cheddar popcorn, a cozy scarf, and noise-canceling headphones?

If you didn’t catch it, we listed oversized handbags in our current selling guide as one of the elevated everyday items we’re looking for this season. We also found lots of examples of them in our brand’s regional feeds on Instagram! Take a look at some of the amazing bags that recently came through our stores. Which one would you choose?

October 8, 2024 How to Sell Clothes for Money on the Spot

You want to sell clothes for money on the spot. We get it! That’s why we offer a selling solution you can’t find with online platforms or apps.

Here’s how it works. Bring your gently used clothes into any Crossroads store location (except our outlet store in Stockton), and our buyers will assess your clothing and offer you cash or trade that day.  We offer a percentage of what we price your items for. Take the cash, or use the trade as store credit to refresh your closet with new fashion finds.

You don’t even need to make an appointment because our stores buy all day every day. But if you want to minimize your wait time in-store, you can download the Crossroads waitlist app and add your name to the waitlist remotely. You’ll conveniently receive a text when it’s your turn to sell! (Watch this video to learn how it works).

Get started by checking out our latest selling guide to learn the styles, trends, and labels we’re currently looking for. Then clean out your closet and bring those pre-loved items our way.

October 3, 2024 Style Inspo: Puffer Jackets

Puffer jackets are undeniably cozy, but how do you keep your look stylish while staying warm? We turned to Instagram to find some style inspiration. Follow along to see what we found!

Go for Pastels

There’s no requirement to wear one in the usual black or gray. Instead, pick one in an unexpected pop of spring color, like this ballerina pink.

Monochrome & Neutrals

Take the look full monochrome to achieve a simple chic outfit. Weave in other neutrals like winter white and charcoal gray.

Pick a Fabric Twist

Not all puffer jackets are made in the classic nylon fabric. Look for variety, like this version in corduroy.

Make it Sporty

Add leggings, trainers, and a baseball cap for the ultimate sporty look. Ski slopes not required.

Baggy

We love a good oversized fit, so don’t overlook a baggy style. Pair it with wide-leg jeans or cargo pants.

There are even more seasonal styles to consider in our current selling guide and fall/winter lookbook.

Take a look, get inspired, and then stop into your nearest Crossroads store to shop for the new season. Don’t forget to bring in your gently used seasonal pieces to sell for cash or trade!

September 18, 2024 Popular Secondhand Dresses for Fall

Seasonal dresses are a popular pick, but secondhand dresses are even better. With a varied selection and lower prices, they match your unique style while giving you the thrill of the hunt.

As we slip into the fall season, here are 4 types of secondhand dresses that are fun to find.

Vintage Styles

Bring back an oldie but goodie style like this beautiful Gunne Sax piece. The burgundy velveteen, lace-up top, and crochet detailing showcase why vintage dresses still stand up decades later.

Maxi Length

A maxi dress becomes a prime layering piece in fall. Add leggings, boots, sweaters, and jackets to build a complete fall look.

Fall Florals

We have yet to meet a floral piece that doesn’t delight us. The print is unexpected in fall and winter, but fits in when the color palette leans into dusty pinks, forest green, and rust.

Moody Chic

Bring out all the late-90s vibes with dresses in long silhouettes with matching platform shoes or combat boots. Add a chunky necklace or choker, of course.

Or shop and sell your fall pieces at any of our store locations (excluding our outlet store in Stockton, CA).
