May 20, 2021 From Our Selling Guide: The Utilitarian Trend
If you keep an eye on the trends from our selling guide, the utilitarian trend may have jumped out at you. Wondering what the trend is all about? We’re happy to introduce you to it.
Utilitarian fashion pieces focus on functionality, a characteristic that makes them look simple and streamlined. The trend is rooted in military and menswear silhouettes–and while it may sound boring–the design result is effortless and sleek.
The trend occurs in everything from dresses to jackets to shoes and bags. We’ll show you! Keep scrolling to see a variety of examples that came straight from the sales floors of some of our store locations. Make note of the accent on zippers and clean lines. Then imagine the ease of selecting any of these items from your closet for the day. They’re easy to wear and fashionable!
This is only one look from our online selling guide: the utilitarian trend is listed there among many others that we’re looking to buy in our stores right now. Give it a look to see if you have any “pre-loved” items in your closet that can earn you cash or trade on-the-spot in our stores. Then make a visit and ask to sell with a buyer. We hope to see you!
May 18, 2021 4 Dress Styles You Should Have on Your Radar
Oh, we’re just over here counting down the days until our summer dresses are on repeat, and until then we’ll share the 4 dress styles you should have on your radar.
Summer dresses are an easy morning pick; they look pretty, keep you cool, and feel comfortable. That’s why they’re usually the first rack we head to when we visit any of our stores. Here are the 4 dress styles we expect to see more of as we approach Memorial Day weekend (the official summer kick-off!).
1. Vintage Floral
We love a good floral dress, and this year we expect to see more in a vintage style, whether authentically vintage or just inspired. We think we’ll see lots of prairie floral and exotic 60’s florals.
2. Bodycon
Bodycon dresses in ribbed cotton and lightweight sweater knits are fabulously reminiscent of the ’90s when styled with round sunnies and platform shoes.
3. Denim
You spend the other seasons in denim jeans, so invest in a denim dress for summer and keep the trend going. Just look for lightweight denim fabrics that will keep you cool. Like your favorite jeans, you can accessorize a denim dress with everything from sandals to sneakers to heels.
4. Nightgown
A nightgown dress is perfect for when you want to keep everything light, flowy, and easy. This is quickly becoming one of our favorite dress styles, and from time to time we love to play the softness of the dress against something bold like boots or booties.
These are the 4 dress styles we think you should have on your radar, but we know there are so many more! Let us know which styles you’re planning to wear by tagging us on Instagram with your favorites: @crossroadstrading. We can’t wait to see them!
May 13, 2021 The 7 Best Preppy Pieces
The preppy look doesn’t belong to the ’80s alone. In fact, here are the 7 best preppy pieces we’re wearing right now.
You’ll recognize a few from recent posts about styling sweater vests, blazers, and loafers with socks, and the rest round out the list to give you lots of choices when creating your preppy look. And of course, you don’t even have to stick to classic preppy: add combat boots, a leather jacket, or oversized hoodie to give preppy a twist.
Here are our top 7 picks:
1. Sweater Vest
Belt an oversized one for a new take, or choose classic argyle or houndstooth in a cropped style.
2. Sporty Stripes
Imagine you have plans to play rugby this Saturday and start your inspiration from there. TIP: Gucci stripes are always next level.
3. Uniform Skirt
You heard it here first: the uniform skirt you hated in your youth is your new best friend.
4. Tennis Wear
I have no explanation for why tennis seemed so prevalent in the ’80s, but the look is easy to replicate off the court, especially with a classic tennis skirt.
5. Blazer
The blazer is the mothership of preppy style and an excellent thrift find. Look for extra special ones like the blue velvet and yellow vintage-cut ones below.
6. Cardigan
The simplest fashion formula out there: cardigan+string of pearls=preppy.
7. Preppy Bag
Once you’ve pulled the look together, you need the perfect bag! May we recommend a vintage Gucci handbag, Longchamp tote, or Celine crossbody?
You now have the list of 7 best preppy pieces, so go! Put that look together and show us what you come up with by tagging us on Instagram @crossroadstrading. You may find yourself featured on our main feed.

May 11, 2021 Your Summer Closet Needs Slides
With Memorial Day approaching, our closets are quickly evolving with summer in mind. It’s time for a little reminder: your summer closet needs slides.
Slides save the day as you run out the door for weekend errands and lunch with friends. They pair as easily with a baby doll dress as your jeans and shorts.
When looking through the Crossroads regional Instagram feeds (did you know we had those?), I found a number of pairs pulled from some of our store locations. They showcased an assortment of styles for men and women: slipper-style in gold satin, bedazzled with sequins, in designer brands like Versace and YSL, in simple leather, and in Mary Jane-style.
Keep scrolling to see for yourself and decide which pair you’d pick for your summer closet.
You can always count on us for timely reminders about seasonal trends, like this PSA that your summer closet needs slides. We publish a convenient online selling guide that shows you the trends we’re currently buying and the trends you’ll want to add to your closet each season. Our buy-sell-trade shopping experience makes it so easy to keep your closet on-trend in a fun, affordable, and sustainable way. You can learn more here.
