February 6, 2025 The Ruffles Are Here

Ruffles mean spring, whether they’re on blouses, dresses, or skirts. They’re also in line with the New Romantic trend we included in our recent selling guide.

On days we want to avoid too much frill (versus the days we embrace our maximalist streak), we like to pair ruffles with more simple basics. For example, a top with ruffles matches well with classic black trousers or jeans, and you can pair a skirt with a denim button-down or striped tee.

We’ve gathered some inspiration shots from Instagram for you. Take a look!

February 4, 2025 Black Culture’s Impact on Fashion

The importance of Black culture’s impact on fashion is simply undeniable.

We’ve shared some of the most popular trends before, like hoop earrings, nail art, and streetwear, and sneaker culture, logomania, and oversized clothing.

But the list is far from done. Consider this Part 3. Here are three more styles and fashion pieces we all know and love.

Athleisure

Black culture gets credit for perfectly blending athletic pieces with casual wear to create the athleisure look. The style naturally evolved from earlier trends in sportswear and high-end streetwear, and was then made popular by Black athletes, musicians, and fashion influencers.

We can’t imagine our closets without this style now.

Bucket Hats

We can thank the 1980’s hip-hop community for the popularity of the bucket hat. Music performers like LL Cool J and Run DMC took this hat style from fishing to fashion.

Over time, the bucket hat has become a versatile statement piece, worn in different fabrics and patterns.

Nameplate Necklaces

Although many weren’t introduced to the nameplate necklace until the late 1990s with the “Carrie necklace” from Sex & the City, this fashion piece went much further back.

Along with nameplate earrings, it had been popular in Black and Latino cultures since the 1970s, specifically in New York.

50 years later, this jewelry piece still remains popular.

Black culture’s impact on fashion goes way beyond these 9 pieces, but these are some we consider essentials in our wardrobes. Which are your favorites?

January 30, 2025 Closet Favorite: The Denim Jacket

Is it crazy to have more than one denim jacket? We don’t think so (but then again, we’re totally guilty of this).

A denim jacket is that lightweight piece you grab on a sunny but chilly afternoon. You know, that special moment when you realize that spring really is just on the horizon. You can crumple it into your tote bag for the day, and it still emerges as a stylish hero piece when the temperatures drop.

It also looks as fitting with a sundress as it is with trousers, and it allows you to style a true denim-on-denim look when you feel the whim.

Keep scrolling to see some of the denim jacket looks we applaud for being easy and effortless.

January 28, 2025 The Best Places to Sell Clothes

In our opinion, the best places to sell clothes are quick, convenient, and don’t involve standing in line at the post office (no thanks, peer-to-peer apps).

They don’t involve scheduling appointments, and they can be found in your favorite neighborhoods. They’re available to you every day, and you can earn cash or store credit on the spot.

In this convenient selling scenario, a well-trained buyer will go through all your clothes and buy as much as possible, eager to fill their store racks with gently worn clothing that shoppers will adore.

Yes, you guessed right: we’re talking about buy-sell-trade fashion stores like Crossroads!

At a buy-sell-trade store you can bring all your preloved clothing into the store and sign in to sell (Crossroads even has an app for this). When it’s your turn, a buyer assesses all your clothing and determines what to buy. In the case of Crossroads, you’ll earn a percentage of what they price your items for.

Best part: you can take your payout before you leave the store. No waiting for the items to sell!
