December 1, 2020 Breaking News: Leggings Are Not Over

Leggings are not over. How does that make you feel, as we move towards the coldest months of the year and the holidays? It makes us ecstatic, imagining all the ways we’ll continue to style them, but now with blazers, heavy sweatshirts, and holiday wear.

Leggings became our go-to pants once quarantine began, and as we enter the ninth month of it, we continue to find them essential. May we be so bold as to claim that the argument that “leggings aren’t pants” has been officially disproved?

If you’re looking for outfit inspiration, there’s plenty to be found. We enjoy turning to fashion influencers, or just doing a quick #leggings search. We’ve shared just a few of our favorite outfits below.

So continue to wear them, style them up or down, and have no fear. They remain one of our favorite pant choices! You’ll likely see us transition them into spring under long shirts and dresses, and then into summer with cropped tops and slides.

We’re always on the lookout for great outfits with leggings, so don’t hesitate to share your look with us on Instagram by tagging @crossroadstrading. You may even find yourself featured on our company feed!

November 24, 2020 The Best of Thanksgiving Fashion: The Turtleneck

Holidays mean dressing comfortably and warm, and the turtleneck ranks high on our list of the best Thanksgiving fashion.

We love them in stretch jersey and sweaters, and they pair well with everything from jeans, leggings, skirts, vests, blazers to leather shorts. In an ode to one of the best Thanksgiving fashion pieces out there, let’s take a moment to admire some excellent turtleneck styling.

Woman in black turtleneck and jeans

High-waisted flared denim with a turtleneck for the win! Add a great pair of heels to complete the look.

Man in turtleneck and leather jacket

A leather jacket is a turtleneck’s best friend. Keep it monochromatic for chic defined.

Women in turtleneck sweater and skirt

A silky skirt and sneakers balance a chunky knit turtleneck sweater.

Man in turtleneck and vest

A vest or jacket partners perfectly with a turtleneck and pleated trousers.

Woman in turtleneck and shorts

These vegan leather shorts and boots look amazing.

Man in turtleneck and blazer

A blazer will always take a turtleneck up a notch. Upgrade to cashmere and wool pieces whenever possible.

What do you think? Do you agree that a turtleneck is one of the best Thanksgiving fashion pieces to own? If so, show us how you style yours by tagging us on Instagram: @crossroadstrading. We may feature you on our company feed!

November 19, 2020 Why Secondhand Fashion Gifts Just Make Sense

The holidays this year will be different than any other we’ve seen, so maybe it’s time to consider another new thought: secondhand fashion gifts just make sense. Of course, the best reason of all is that it’s better for the environment, but have you considered any of these other reasons?

Sometimes Secondhand is Still New

Kate Spade Handbag and Wallet

Valentino Handbag

Many times, sellers bring us items that just never fit into wardrobe, and they still have tags on them! Your recipient will have no idea that you bought it secondhand.

You Can Upgrade Your Gift

Hermes Scarf

Sequin Jacket

Red Coat

At Crossroads, secondhand fashion items are sold at about a third of their original retail price. This means you can get so much more for your money! Your gift budget can be stretched to afford designer pieces, or allow you to upgrade your gift from a basic piece to a heavy-duty one like a jacket or coat.

They Can Be Vintage and Special

Vintage Levis Jacket

KAWS Uniqulo T-Shirts

We have nothing against another candle set or pair of slippers, but think how much more memorable your gift can be. Who wouldn’t want to receive a classic vintage Levis jacket or a special collection t-shirt?

We hope we’ve convinced you why secondhand fashion gifts just make sense. Keep them in mind this year as you start to make your shopping list. Make sure to follow our regional Instagram feeds too, so you can watch for special pieces that you know will be perfect for friends and family.

November 12, 2020 How to Style a Fall Scarf

What would autumn be without a pile of long cozy scarves to complement your cold-weather wardrobe? Before you grab one in the coming weeks for a brisk walk, coffee run or commute to work, we’ve collected a few tips on how to style a fall scarf.

Go Big

Woman in Blanket Scarf

A blanket scarf is our personal favorite. It’s heavy, soft and will keep you warm all the way to your toes. It’s best in the classic styling of tossed over one shoulder.

Keep it Imperfect

Man in Scarf with One Side Shorter

This rule is simple: don’t try too hard. If one side is a little longer than the other, you’ve got it just right. Think nonchalance.

Make it the Star

Woman in Big Print Scarf

In a beautiful print or bright colors, why not make your scarf the main attraction of your outfit? Drape it loosely to your waist and show it off.

Make it a Duo

Woman in Red Scarf and Beanie

This adds more flair and more warmth: bring in a matching beanie or beret (a la Emily in Paris).

Get Creative

Want to take it up a notch? InStyle Magazine has put together a tutorial with 18 examples of how to style a fall scarf here.

We’re now off to pull those thick scarves out of the back of our closet. How about you?
